48 Hours of Worship Bangor 2010
Where: Rear of Bangor Abbey Castle Park Bangor Co-Down Northern Ireland When: 7 pm on September 24th through 25th Until 8 pm on September 26th
This event is not a concert, a performance, or indeed a conference. No it’s simply a period of 48 continuous one hour watches, where Christians will gather, to stand before our God and say “I Love You”. There will be no preaching or teaching, just worship.
In this act we will be joining with the voices of our spiritual forefathers who initiated Laus Perennis or 24/7 worship on this site for over 150 years during the 6th and 7th centuries until it is believed they ended during the period of the Viking raids.
In 2003 as part of a Conference of Prayer, held in Bangor Abbey a Finnish intercessor called Päivi Heikkilä along with several other intercessors from Norway, and Denmark (the Viking nations) came to Bangor. In a most moving act of repentance this small group knelt in the nave of the Abbey and asked forgiveness for the acts of their forefathers. Our present gathering will be initiated by Päivi and her partners, as we believe God said that since the Vikings stopped the original worship, they should start it again.
During our gathering we will be joined by many folk from Europe and America. Groups from Texas, Georgia, Tennessee and Atlanta from America, while from Europe there will be groups from France and Belgium. Closer to home we will have groups from England, Scotland and Wales and of course Ireland. No one is receiving any particular billing, but don’t be surprised if you turn up and find that you recognise the leader of that watch as someone you know well. Also worship groups drawn from many of the churches in our town of Bangor and the surrounding district will be taking part. Dancers and poets are also encouraged to take part, as we seek to truly worship God with our whole being. If you are interested in coming to this event, then please contact us at our email address and let us know your intended dates and times.
Blessings
